Why Knowing Your Core Values Changes Everything
The older I get, the more I realize this: knowing your core values changes everything.
When you’re younger, life often feels like “go with the flow.” You react. You adapt. You move toward what feels good or urgent. But over time, you start to recognize something powerful: every choice you make is shaped by what you truly value.
For more than 20 years, I believed I was living by my values: health, faith, connection, honesty, trust, self-drive, and family.
But recently, I had to pause and ask myself:
- What is truly important to me?
- What are my core values?
- Where did they come from?
- Am I modeling them, or just naming them?
That pause changed me.
Recovery Gave Me the Space to Reflect
Recovery has given me a gift I didn’t know I needed: the ability to reflect without taking everything personally.
It taught me surrender.
It taught me to admit I can’t do it alone.
It taught me to let go.
That work created the space for deeper examination, not just as a person, but as a parent, spouse, and leader.
A friend once handed me a values worksheet. I assumed I knew my values. But as I reviewed the list, something surprised me.
Some values I had clearly defined. Others? I hadn’t labeled them as values at all.
Ambition.
Leadership.
Self-discipline.
Financial stability.
Resilience.
I realized these weren’t just personality traits. They were guiding principles influencing how I showed up every single day.
That’s when I truly began understanding the power of knowing your core values.
Values Come in Layers
Here’s the mind-blowing part: values come in layers.
Some values feed others. Some create the foundation for what matters most.
For example:
- Faith may anchor integrity.
- Integrity builds trust.
- Trust strengthens the connection.
- Connection shapes family culture.
When my family and I began discussing our shared values, it became clear: our personal values as parents are the roots of our shared family values.
Some were obvious to us and to our kids. Others were assumed but never clearly expressed. And if something isn’t clearly connected, it can’t be consistently modeled.
Children don’t just listen to what we say.
They absorb what we consistently do.
You can’t expect your family to live your values if you don’t intentionally demonstrate them.
That realization required humility.
The Voice That Tries to Shame Growth
As I write this, a voice inside me says:
“Hope, someone will read this and think, based on that mistake you made that one time, you definitely need to reevaluate your values.”
And maybe that voice isn’t entirely wrong.
But here’s what that voice forgets:
I am doing the work.
Despite the bad choice.
Despite the shortcomings.
Despite the failed attempt at “getting life right.”
Growth is not about perfection. It’s about responsibility.
Life isn’t easy. Growth requires ownership. I cannot change anyone else. But I can change how I show up. I can examine my patterns. I can align my behaviors.
In the past, I’ve said, “I didn’t sign up for this.”
If I’m honest? Sometimes I used that phrase to justify not wanting to try. I was tired. Annoyed. Sad. Lost. I wanted to give up.
But the truth is, I did sign up for this.
I signed up to heal.
To break generational patterns.
To build resilience in myself and my kids.
To rise.
And knowing your core values is part of that commitment.
Values Aren’t Words — They’re Behaviors
Values are not pretty statements on a wall.
They are daily behaviors.
They are how you respond when you’re frustrated.
They are how you handle conflict.
They are how you treat your spouse when you disagree.
They are how you talk about others when they’re not in the room.
When you clearly define your values, you gain:
- Clarity in decision-making
- Confidence in leadership
- Consistency in parenting
- Emotional steadiness during conflict
- Alignment between your words and actions
- Stronger family identity
- Increased resilience during hard seasons
- Freedom from people-pleasing
- A framework for teaching your children
- Integrity you can stand on
This is why knowing your core values matters so deeply. It creates alignment. It eliminates confusion. It replaces reaction with intention.
Modeling What Matters Most
My family and I are now intentionally identifying our shared values. We’re discussing how to model them better. We’re helping our kids see how values grow into behaviors, which grow into choices, which ultimately shape life paths.
This isn’t about being perfect parents.
It’s about being conscious ones.
It’s about saying, “Here is what we stand for,” and then living in a way that supports it.
Because knowing your core values without living them creates internal conflict. But identifying them, owning them, and modeling them creates generational impact.
A Question for Every Parent & Leader
Can you name your values?
Not the ones that sound impressive, but the ones that truly drive your decisions?
Can you identify how they show up in your family? Your marriage? Your leadership? Your reactions?
Your values are shaping your home whether you define them or not.
So define them.
Live them.
Refine them.
Here’s to not just saying your values matter, but living them consciously.
Here’s to healing.
Here’s to responsibility.
Here’s to growth.
And here’s to doing the work, every single day. 💗

Leading with Gratitude: How Appreciation Builds Stronger Teams
Entrepreneurship and leadership go hand in hand. But while strategy and vision may define your direction, it’s gratitude that shapes your connection — with your team, your clients, and yourself.
In today’s fast-moving business world, where burnout and turnover are common, leaders who lead with gratitude stand out. They create cultures where people feel seen, valued, and motivated — not just managed.
As Hope Zvara reminds her clients,
“Leadership isn’t about authority — it’s about energy. And gratitude is one of the highest forms of energy you can bring to any team.”
Let’s explore how leading with appreciation can build stronger, more connected teams that thrive together.
🌿 Why Gratitude Is a Leadership Essential
It’s easy to assume gratitude is just a “feel-good” emotion, but neuroscience says otherwise. Studies from the University of Southern California show that expressing gratitude activates brain regions linked to empathy, reward, and connection. In business terms, that means gratitude improves collaboration, emotional intelligence, and trust.
Leaders who consistently express appreciation report:
- Higher employee engagement
- Lower stress and turnover
- Increased creativity and loyalty
When you make gratitude part of your leadership style, you transform work from a task list into a shared mission.
💫 1. The Power of Being Seen
Gratitude begins with acknowledgment — seeing the human behind the job title. It’s as simple as telling your assistant, “I really appreciate how you handled that client call,” or thanking a contractor for going above and beyond.
A 2022 Glassdoor survey found that 81% of employees said they’d work harder for a boss who expresses appreciation regularly. Recognition fuels motivation far more effectively than fear or micromanagement ever could.
👉 Try This:
Once a week, send one short message to someone on your team acknowledging their specific contribution. Avoid generic praise — be specific about what they did and why it mattered.
Example:
“I noticed how you stayed calm under pressure during yesterday’s meeting. That presence sets the tone for everyone. Thank you.”
Small words. Big impact.
🌼 2. Gratitude as a Communication Practice
Gratitude changes how you speak and listen. When you lead with appreciation, feedback becomes collaborative rather than critical.
Instead of saying:
“You didn’t finish this on time.”
Try:
“I appreciate your effort on this. What do you need to help meet the next deadline more smoothly?”
This subtle shift transforms confrontation into connection. Gratitude builds psychological safety — the feeling that it’s safe to be honest, creative, and even make mistakes.
According to a Harvard Business Review article on leadership communication, teams that feel appreciated are 50% more likely to share ideas and solve problems proactively.
🌸 3. Gratitude Rituals for Teams
Leading with gratitude doesn’t mean big gestures. It’s about consistent, authentic moments of recognition that nurture your team culture.
Simple Gratitude Rituals:
- Weekly Gratitude Round: Start team meetings with one “gratitude share” — something each person is thankful for that week.
- The Thank-You Wall: Create a shared virtual board where teammates can post notes of appreciation.
- Gratitude Fridays: End the week by acknowledging one win and one person who contributed to it.
These rituals build emotional cohesion, helping everyone remember that they’re part of something meaningful — not just a to-do list.
“A team rooted in gratitude doesn’t just perform better — it feels better.” – Hope Zvara
🌱 4. Gratitude in Difficult Conversations
Even during challenges or conflict, gratitude is a grounding force. When emotions run high, pause to acknowledge something positive before addressing the issue.
For example:
“I value your honesty and dedication — and because of that, I want to have a transparent conversation about what’s not working.”
This approach instantly softens defensiveness and invites collaboration. Gratitude disarms ego and reconnects both sides to shared goals.
A Stanford University study on workplace gratitude found that teams who practiced appreciative communication experienced 31% fewer conflicts and faster resolution times.
🌻 5. Gratitude for Yourself as a Leader
It’s easy for leaders to give appreciation outward but forget to direct it inward. Leadership can be isolating, and self-criticism often runs high. Practicing self-gratitude helps you lead with clarity and calm rather than pressure or perfectionism.
Try ending your day by writing down:
- One thing you did well today.
- One decision you handled with integrity.
- One way you showed up with kindness or courage.
By thanking yourself for showing up, you refill your energy — the same energy that others rely on from you.
“You can’t pour gratitude into your team if your own cup is empty.” – Hope Zvara
🌞 6. Leading with Gratitude Creates Ripple Effects
Gratitude multiplies. When you make it part of your culture, it spreads naturally. Clients notice. Partners feel it. Your brand begins to radiate authenticity and trust — the kind that marketing can’t fake.
In fact, according to Gallup’s 2023 State of the Global Workplace report, organizations with high recognition cultures experience 19% higher profits and 72% lower turnover.
When you lead with gratitude, you’re not just improving morale — you’re enhancing performance, reputation, and longevity.
🧘♀️ A 3-Minute Leadership Gratitude Meditation
- Sit quietly and take three slow, deep breaths.
- Bring to mind your team — their faces, their talents, their dedication.
- Silently say: “I am grateful for the people who make this work possible.”
- Visualize your gratitude as a warm light expanding outward from your heart, touching every person you work with.
- End with this affirmation:“Through gratitude, I lead with compassion, connection, and clarity.”
This daily intention anchors your leadership in empathy and balance — the kind of leadership that transforms businesses from the inside out.

How to Find Clarity When You Don’t Know What’s Next
Lately, I’ve been in a season of reflection, one that feels unfamiliar, even a little uncomfortable. For much of my life, I’ve had a clear sense of direction. I’ve known what I’m working toward, what comes next, and what feels right. But recently, my future has felt like a wide-open net, with possibilities everywhere, but none have been distinctly calling my name. finding clarity in life
At first, I thought I was stuck. But over time, I realized I wasn’t stuck; I was being still. And there’s a difference.
In my quest to “figure it out,” I’ve learned something profound: sometimes, the only thing we can truly do is put one foot in front of the other and trust that clarity will meet us along the way.
The Wisdom of Doing the Last Thing You Knew Was Right
A few weeks ago, a friend shared something that stopped me in my tracks. He said, “When my wife doesn’t know what to do next, she just does the last thing God told her to do.”
That hit me hard.
Because so often, we’re waiting for a sign, a neon arrow pointing to the next big move. We want confirmation that we’re on the right path before taking another step. But what if the clarity we’re searching for isn’t something new? What if it’s already behind us, waiting for us to remember?
That question made me pause and reflect: What was the last thing that felt undeniably clear to me? What was the thing that gave me peace, direction, or purpose?
Doesn’t always come in lightning bolts. Sometimes it’s a quiet nudge, an inner knowing, or a whisper saying, Keep doing what you’re already doing.
And that’s where the magic happens.
Our Obsession with Signs and the Science Behind the Search
We live in a world that craves instant clarity. We want big signs, clear messages, and divine direction now. The truth is, our brains are wired for it.
Neuroscience shows that our brains are addicted to dopamine, the neurotransmitter that rewards us for seeking novelty, validation, and achievement. Every time we check our phones, scroll social media, or chase the next shiny thing, we get a hit of that feel-good chemical.
It’s the same mechanism that fuels our constant search for “what’s next.” We mistake motion for meaning. We confuse stimulation for purpose.
But here’s the catch: clarity doesn’t thrive in chaos.
When we’re constantly moving, chasing, and searching, we rarely pause long enough to listen. And when we don’t listen, we miss the subtle cues, the intuitive whispers, the divine nudges that guide us forward.
As Carl Jung famously said, “Until you make the unconscious conscious, it will direct your life and you will call it fate.”
If we never stop, we never see the patterns. We never hear the message.
The Spiritual Perspective: Clarity as Alignment
From a spiritual standpoint, clarity is less about finding and more about aligning. finding clarity in life
Energy follows attention. When your attention is scattered, when your mind is restless, anxious, or trying to control every outcome, your energy becomes fragmented. You stop vibrating in harmony with your highest path.
But when you ground yourself, breathe, and bring your awareness back to the present moment, something shifts. The noise quiets. Your intuition gets louder. The next step begins to reveal itself, not because it suddenly appeared, but because you were finally still enough to see it.
In metaphysics, this is known as vibrational coherence, the state where your energy, emotions, and actions are aligned. When you’re in coherence, you don’t have to chase clarity; it flows to you.
Think of it like a radio. If you’re tuned to the wrong frequency, no matter how loud you turn the volume, you’ll just get static. But when you adjust ever so slightly, suddenly, the music becomes clear.
That’s what alignment does.
When There’s No “Sign,” It Might Be Because You’re Already on the Right Path
I had an aha moment recently. I realized that the reason I haven’t received a big, obvious “sign” about what’s next is because… there isn’t one.
And that’s the point.
No big changes are needed right now. No massive pivots. Just faithfulness to what’s already in front of me.
This realization was both freeing and humbling. It reminded me that stillness is not the absence of growth; it’s often the space where transformation happens quietly, beneath the surface.
In nature, winter looks still, but beneath the frozen ground, life is preparing to bloom. Seeds are germinating. Roots are strengthening.
Maybe this season of uncertainty isn’t about doing something new, but about becoming someone new slowly, quietly, intentionally.
The Psychology of Waiting and the Power of Presence
Psychologically speaking, our discomfort with uncertainty often stems from our brain’s need for control. The human mind loves predictability; it feels safe when it knows what’s next. But growth rarely happens in comfort.
According to mindfulness research, the act of staying present of releasing the need to control the future actually activates parts of the brain responsible for emotional regulation and creative thinking.
In other words, when you stop overthinking and start simply being, your nervous system calms, your intuition sharpens, and clarity rises to the surface naturally.
Stillness isn’t stagnation. It’s integration. It’s the bridge between who you were and who you’re becoming.
Practical Steps for Finding Clarity in Life
If you’re in a season of uncertainty, here are a few ways to begin finding clarity again:
- Return to the Last Thing You Knew Was Right
Reflect on the last time you felt deeply certain about something in your life. What was it? Why did it feel so right? Go back there. Continue that work until something new calls you forward.
- Limit Your Inputs
The more noise around you, digital, emotional, or mental, the harder it is to hear your inner guidance. Take breaks from constant information, social media, or even well-meaning advice.
- Reconnect with Your Body
Clarity isn’t just mental, it’s somatic. Movement, yoga, or even simple breathing can help regulate your nervous system and open you to insight.
- Practice Stillness Daily
Whether it’s meditation, prayer, journaling, or sitting in silence, create space to listen. Stillness is the soil where wisdom grows.
- Let Go of the Timeline
Trust divine timing. When we rush, we often trip over blessings not yet ready for us. What’s meant for you cannot miss you.
The Takeaway: Trust the Pause
We often think that when life feels quiet or unclear, something’s wrong. But maybe the quiet is the invitation.
Maybe you’re not being asked to move, you’re being asked to trust.
When you surrender the need to have all the answers, you make space for the answers to find you. When you stop demanding signs, you start noticing synchronicities. When you stop pushing, you begin flowing.
Clarity doesn’t come from force. It comes from faith.
So if you’re in a season of uncertainty, take heart. Do the last thing you knew was right. Stay faithful to the path in front of you. Be patient with yourself.
And remember: the absence of a sign might just be the biggest sign of all—because it means you’re exactly where you need to be. finding clarity in life

The Power of Your Core: More Than Just Abs
Core strength isn’t just about sculpted abs—it’s your body’s energetic and emotional center. From the yoga mat to the boardroom, when you connect with your core, you tap into a deeper well of personal power, mental clarity, and unwavering self-confidence.
As a movement specialist and spiritual seeker, I’ve worked with countless women and entrepreneurs who feel disconnected, tired, and unsure of themselves—not realizing their center, their core, is out of sync.
Your core muscles, which include not just your abdominals but also your back, diaphragm, pelvic floor, and hips, act as a physical and energetic powerhouse. Strengthen them, and you’ll unlock more than movement—you’ll spark motivation, vitality, and inner belief.
Core Strength = Core Energy
The solar plexus, or manipura chakra, located right above the navel, is your energy hub. It governs personal power, will, and self-esteem. When this area is weak—physically or energetically—so is your confidence.
Simple breathwork and mindful movement can stimulate this center. Practices like pranayama and yoga poses such as boat pose (Navasana) or plank invite both energy and strength into the area.
Want more energy in your day? Start with your core.
A weak core makes even daily tasks exhausting, causing you to unconsciously hold tension in your shoulders, clench your jaw, or feel constantly fatigued. A strong, supple core encourages diaphragmatic breathing, reducing stress, increasing oxygen intake, and revitalizing your system.
Core Confidence is Built from the Inside Out
When you stand tall with a strong center, you exude confidence. You’re more grounded. You speak from truth. You feel the power of your own presence.
A few minutes a day engaging your core—through yoga, Pilates, resistance exercises, or dynamic breathing—can recalibrate how you carry yourself and how others perceive you.
Want to feel better in your body? Want to walk into a room with confidence? Strengthen your center.
Quick Core Connection Ritual:
- Breathwork: 3 minutes of belly breathing (inhaling fully into your abdomen)
- Core Activation: 1-minute plank or 10 slow boat pose lifts
- Affirmation: “I am strong, centered, and confident.”
That’s when they start to follow, buy, and refer.

It’s true that stress is something everyone deals with but nobody really wants to talk about. It sneaks in quietly at first, with a bit of pressure here, and a tight deadline there, and before you know it, it’s running the show.
Yet, so many people try to bottle it up or ignore it completely, hoping it’ll just go away. But if you want to improve your mental health, then you first need to understand that stress just doesn’t go away “just like that”. You just can’t ignore it, honestly! In fact, this is something that just sticks around. It’s only going to get louder, plus, it starts to cause chaos in ways you never saw coming.
Seriously, it’s time to stop treating stress like a minor inconvenience and start taking it seriously.
Ignoring Stress Only Makes It Worse
Sure, burying stress might seem like the easiest option, but it’s also the most damaging. Bottling it up doesn’t solve the problem; it just delays the explosion. And make no mistake, the explosion always comes. For the most part, unaddressed stress can show up in unexpected ways.
Maybe it’s snapping at loved ones over something small, or maybe it’s struggling to concentrate because your mind won’t stop racing. But eventually, it spills into your work, your relationships, and even your sense of self. Overall, just pretending it’s not there doesn’t make it disappear, it just makes it harder to manage when it finally demands attention.
Stress Doesn’t Just Live in Your Head
Okay, so stress isn’t just about feeling overwhelmed; it takes a toll on your body too. This is something that most people do seem to have a general idea of. For example, have you ever noticed how your shoulders are practically glued to your ears when you’re stressed? Or how your stomach feels like it’s in knots? Well, none of it is a coincidence.
You’re Physically Affected
When stress sticks around for too long, it can lead to headaches, poor sleep, and even digestive problems. Over time, it can do some real damage, like weakening your immune system or contributing to heart issues. Just think of it this way; ignoring stress is like leaving the tap running, you might not notice the mess straight away, but eventually, it overflows and creates a problem you can’t ignore.
Your Mental Health Deserves Attention
Now, this one can’t be stressed enough (no pun intended), but generally speaking, stress doesn’t stay contained. If left unchecked, it starts to affect your mental health in ways that can be tough to bounce back from. It can heighten feelings of anxiety, lead to depressive thoughts, or make it impossible to enjoy the things you usually love.
It’s not just about feeling a bit “off.” Stress can create a cycle where everything feels harder, such as harder to get through the day, harder to make decisions, and harder to feel like yourself. This is why it’s so important to address it before it spirals.
You need to look into seeking help from someone like psychotherapist RJ Therapy, or a local mental health professional who specializes in mental health and stress management. A professional can truly make all the difference, such as helping you unpack the root causes, offering tools to navigate it, and even giving you a sense of control again.

When was the last time you did something just for you? Not for work, not for family, not because you had to – but simply because you wanted to? So few of us spend any time or money on ourselves because we think we should always be hustling or always caring for our friends and family, that we let our own self-care slide, but you know what? Treating yourself is one of the best things you can do for your health. Here’s why:
- Life Is a Lot and a Treat Can Help You De-Stress
Life is stressful, right? I think that is something that we can all agree on. Whether it’s work deadlines, helping the kids with their homework or carrying out our housework and social obligations, we all have tons on our plate, and this can lead to chronic stress and even burnout over time.
Treating yourself, whether it’s to a fancy spa say, a simple cupcake with your coffee or a cheap Spotify premium subscription that lets you sing a long all day, can help to release some of that pressure you have built up, so you can relax have the mental break you need to feel refreshed. So go on, buy that latte with extra whipped cream.
- Boosting Your Mood – Happiness Comes in Small Packages
When was the last time a tiny treat turned your whole day around? Treating yourself boosts dopamine, the brain’s “feel-good” chemical, giving you that warm, fuzzy feeling. It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture, either; even a small indulgence can perk up your mood and help you power through the rest of the day. So whether it’s a chocolate bar, a few hours with your favorite book, or a new pair of fuzzy socks, a little happiness boost can work wonders for your overall well-being.
- Self-Care Reminder: You Deserve a Break
Treating yourself reminds you of your own worth. Think of it as a little message to yourself: “Hey, I’m important, too.” We get so caught up in taking care of everyone else that we often forget ourselves. Taking time to treat yourself, even in small ways, can reinforce self-worth and improve self-esteem. Plus, practicing self-care is shown to reduce anxiety and improve resilience, making you better equipped to handle whatever life throws your way.

- Mindful Living: Savor the Moment
Have you ever heard of “mindful eating?” It’s where you slow down and actually enjoy your food – sounds crazy, right? But here’s the thing: treating yourself gives you a chance to be present, to savor a moment without thinking about your endless to-do list. Whether it’s enjoying a glass of wine, taking a long bubble bath, or listening to your favorite album, treating yourself can bring you back to the present. And studies show that mindful living can decrease anxiety, increase focus, and help you appreciate the little things more.
- Because Goals Need Rewards
Setting goals is great, but goals without rewards can feel like running on a treadmill – exhausting and going nowhere fast. Treating yourself is a form of positive reinforcement. It gives you something to look forward to, a little light at the end of the tunnel. If you’ve been working hard, give yourself permission to reward those efforts. You’ll find that you’re more motivated, productive, and ready to tackle the next challenge when you know there’s a treat waiting for you at the finish line.
- Physical Health Benefits – Yes, Really
Treating yourself doesn’t just have mental benefits; it can help your physical health, too. For example, a relaxing massage can lower blood pressure, reduce muscle tension, and improve circulation. Treating yourself to nutritious, delicious food can benefit your overall health without sacrificing flavor. Even taking a day off to rest can reduce inflammation and allow your body to recover from the grind. So if you need another reason to treat yourself, know that a little self-indulgence is as good for your body as it is for your soul.
- Improved Relationships – A Happier You Means Happier People Around You
Let’s be real: when you’re stressed, burnt out, or feeling underappreciated, it’s easy to get a little… cranky. Taking time to treat yourself isn’t just for you – it also benefits everyone around you. When you feel fulfilled and happy, you’re more likely to be patient, understanding, and kind. So treating yourself can actually make you a better partner, friend, parent, and coworker. It’s the ripple effect of self-care, spreading those good vibes far and wide.
- A Reminder to Celebrate Life’s Little Wins
Life is hard, but that doesn’t mean it has to be joyless. Treating yourself gives you a chance to celebrate the little wins, the small joys, and the beauty of the everyday. It’s not about being materialistic or indulgent – it’s about acknowledging that you deserve happiness, just as much as anyone else.
Som go ahead, treat yo’self!
